DRAPING WORKSHOP

This design was suppose to replicate a flower, which I believe I was able to achieve.
This design was suppose to replicate a flower, which I believe I was able to achieve.

During the enrichment week I chose to attend the draping workshop, held by Jen Wilde. Within this workshop I was taught how to correctly drape on the stand and how to create a paper pattern from a draped design, this workshop really allowed me to obtain a great set of knowledge on the art of draping.

Within this workshop, i chose to drape on the stand using a gold poly taffeta fabric. I have personally never been a fan of drape due to the fabric normally not moving the way i want to, but after listening to Jen I found that just letting the fabric do what it wants to do it my best bet to get a good outcome when draping.

After the draped workshop, I did want to bring the flower design into my final collection however i opted to shy away from draping for this and actually found a pattern for a "knot" that errily resembled the draped flower I was able to create. Although I did decide to bring drape back into my collection, but in a less conventional way of using bands that i would hand sew onto the dress.

SCREEN PRINT WITH STENCILS WORKSHOP

During enrichment week i also attended the "screen print with stencils" workshop held by Mae Watts.

Within this workshop I learnt the basics of screen printing with a custom made stencil, crafted from paper, as well as the key knowledge needed in creating my own screen printing dyes. This workshops also allowed me to be inducted into the screen printing lab/textiles room.

In this workshop, I had a full range of screens at my disposal that were already coated in various patterns and it was my task to create different stencils by using a scalpel and paper to create unique designs.

THESE ARE SOME IMAGES I TOOK DURING THE WORKSHOP

I really enjoyed the screen printing workshop, not only was i able to obtain some great knowledge but i was also able to just have some fun with art which I have not been able to do for a while.

After this workshop I wondered if I could incorporate screen printing into my final collection and i did have a few ideas, which sadly did not come to fruition, but my ideas consisted of potenitally screen printing a repeat pattern on a bolt of fabric that would resemble blood stains on a trench coat i was thinking of creating. I also had the idea of screen printing "I DONE IT" on one of the linings withing my final collection - due to my collection being inspired by "Cluedo" this could have been a nice touch to include.
