PLASTIQUE is a five piece collection that is inspired by plastic surgery.

The garments within this collection tell a story of what one would have to go through when opting to get plastic surgery. This collection was my final major project for my second year of university and I wanted to create something that would stand out but also something I have an interest in.

Ever since I was a child, I have always had a fascination with plastic surgery and in turn, plastic surgery and fashion go hand in hand.

The first garment within this collection is a two piece consisting of a blazer and a micro mini skirt, somewhat inspired by the Chanel two piece. With this garment I wanted to convey the idea of someone who is self conscious but tries to hide it - I chose to use a metallic silk dupion for this garment due to how it glistened under the light and forcing your attention to the garment as apposed to the model wearing it. The second garment within the collection was inspired by a hospital gown, specifically a split-back hospital gown that allow for easy access to the patient but also shows off the bottom. This garment is a dress that features a tie within the centre front and a completely open back, which I created by removing the centre back panels to really bring the vision of an open-back gown to life. It was created from a pale pink linen due to the fact I wanted to work with a similar material that hospital gowns were traditionally created from and the finishing within the back consisted of eyelets and satin ribbon to bring the tie aspect of a hospital gown back to the final garment. using satin ribbon. The third garment within this collection was inspired by a bandaged body. To bring the vision of bandages to life within this garment I opted to use pleats that I placed within the centre front of a corset top as well as a box pleated skirt. The fourth garment within this collection was inspired by a swelling that would occur after undergoing plastic surgery, this garment is probably my favourite within this collection and absolutely painstaking to create. This garment consists of eight different panels that all have a-line kicks placed into the hip line that taper into the wait and hemline and I was able to create the "swollen" effect by creating a cage of steel boning and bias binding within the lining of this garment. The five, and final, garment within this collection is inspired by the new body, all healed from the surgery. This garment features a conical bust, pleated peaks within the side seams and a tight hem to allow for the vision of a tiny waist.
